Noa: Music & Me

Hello, I am Noa Ortiz. I am from North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I love my hometown and I’m very close with my friends and family there. I did Jr. Olympic Competitive Gymnastics for about 8 years and I now currently work as a professional acrobat performer over the summers at Dolly Parton’s Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show. Some other fun facts about me are: I love Jesus, going to church, hanging out with friends, and working out. I’ve never been really into music; however more recently (like over the past 3 years) I find myself engaging with it more and finding it more fun and interesting!

Some reference pictures of me :)

1. An example of what I like right now: “Everything She Ain’t” by Hailey Whitters

“Everything She Ain’t” by Hailey Whitters is one of my current go-to songs. I use the app YouTube Music to stream my music and this song is something that I really like at the moment! Hailey Whitters is a country artist. The song “Everything She Ain’t” is about the "slight jealousy that bubbles up when you see your crush with someone else." I particularly love the song because of the melody, instruments, and rhythm. Additionally, I love the sound of Hailey’s southern voice. I find the song “Everything She Ain’t” very fun and upbeat. The lighthearted song always gets me in a good mood and is very enjoyable to sing along to.

2. An example of music that is important to me: The song “Defender” by UPPERROOM

The song "Defender" by UPPERROOM is a piece of music that is personally meaningful and has been for a while. This song really resonates with me and I find it helpful and important. This song is about how Jesus is our Defender; and no matter the outcome of events we can trust the result because it’s in God’s hands. Jesus walks every day with us and even though He seems far we can trust that He is there for us. This song is such a great reminder in times of doubt, worry, and hardships. “Defender” always gives me peace of mind and hope in my heart.

3. An example of music I don’t really connect with: "Big Ole Freak" Megan Thee Stallion

Personally, I am not a fan of the artist Megan Thee Stallion. I don’t connect or understand any of her music, but for the sake of this assignment, I will use her popular song “Big Ole Freak” as an example. Megan’s music is very explicit and inappropriate. In my opinion, I find this song, and really any song from her disturbing by the language and graphic words she uses in her music. The rhythm and beats in her music are often loud, fast, and aggressive. Therefore, this music isn't calming or relaxing to listen to. I do respect Megan Thee Stallion as she is very talented; however, I do not favor her music.

  1. Noa,
I agree... I can not get with Meg the Stallion hype. I like listening to upbeat music but I think the lyrics of her songs are what throw me off! Woman/Women of God by Myammee is an upbeat Christian rap song that has those loud and fast beats/rythms !!

  2. I heard bits of "Everything She Ain't" by Hailey Whitters but forgot to look up the artist/lyrics of the song before I forgot. So thank you for having that up so I can remember. She has a beautiful voice and I will for sure be adding that to my country music playlist. I also agree with you about Meg the Stallion. Although I do listen to rap/hip-hop music she is one artist I avoid because her music is just not appealing to me. Also, very cool to know that you are a professional acrobat performer!

  3. It’s so cool that you do acrobatics at a show! I agree with you on the song that you don’t really connect with. I think it is very explicit and it makes me uncomfortable. I like to listen to calming music and it’s the exact opposite as you comment on.

  4. I thought it was cool that you did Jr. Olympic Competitive Gymnastics for 8 years. I also agree with not being able to connect with Megan Thee Stallion's music. There's always so much going on in them and the explicitness always throws me off.
